EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT EXTENDED TO OUR VERGAL CHILDREN
With the major support of our well wishers and sponsors we were able to distribute all the notebooks to the poor and needy students in and around Kancheepuram town.
256 students benefited from this stationery support. 30 students were given school bags, 45 students given mathematical instrument boxes, 30 students supported with the scholarships for school fees. Majority of beneficiaries are girl students and first generation learners.
On. 17.06.2007, 4.30 p.m, Mr. Sridharan, Trustee, Vergal , Dr.Umasekar,Com. Seetharaman, Tamilnadu Government Employees Association distributed the notebooks to 25 students at Pallavan Nagar, Pillayar temple premises.
On 17.06.2007, 6.30 pm Ms. Nalini, Managing trustee, Vergal, Mr. Pandian, Tamilnadu Science Forum, Ms. Guna, Arivoli Iyakkam, distributed the notebooks to 30 students at Pillayar Palayam Vergal Support centre premises.
On. 20.06.2007, 7.30 pm Mr. Mohana Subramanian, Trustee, Vergal, Mr. Sivaprakasam and Mr.Dhanapal of Democratic Youth Federation of India, distributed the notebooks to 20 students at Military road, Orikkai, Mr. Arjunan’s Home.
On. 24.06.2007 & 06.07.2007 Mr. Srinivasan, Trustee, Vergal, Mrs.Nehru, Ward member,Nathapettai village panchayat and Mr. Sankar, Democratic Youth Federation of India distributed the notebooks to 45 students at Pallar Street, Nathapettai Village.
On. 27.06.2007 and various dates, Valatheeswar Koil Vergal support centre and Narayanapalayam Vergal support centre students and others were distributed notebooks at Vergal office premises, Aladi pillayar koil street through, Ms. Gayathri, Ms. Kamatchi, Ms. Kanaga and Ms. Guna.
On. 01.07.2007, notebooks, bags, scholarships were distributed to 65 students according to their needs by Mr. Mohanarangan, Mr. Tamilselvan, Social Activist Mr.Govindarajan and Ms. Vasantha at AVM Amman Arul Kalyana Mandapam, Iyampettai.
On. 13.07.2007, Mr. Mohan, Mr. Balasundaram, Mrs. Loganayaki jeeva, Ms. Nalini, Managing trustee, Vergal, Ms.Guna, distributed the notebooks to the poor and needy students of Muthu chetty school, Narayanapalayam street.
DEVELOPMENTS ABOUT RELEASED CHILD LABOURS:
We have enrolled Ms. Pachiammal and Ms.Jamuna, Child labours released last year by us, in Thiyagi school, Kancheepuram in the 6th and 5th std respectively as they have completed their bridge school in hand in hand. We are still trying to put them in a boarding school.
We have enrolled Mr. Srinivasan, a child labour released this year in 5th std, Muthu Chetty school.
ABOUT VERGAL EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT CENTRES:
3 Vergal support centres, at Pillayarpalayam, Aladithoppu, and Narayana Palayam, reopened this June 15th.
ABOUT VERGAL PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING CENTRE:
10 school students, 4 college students, 4 parent of students counseled for psychological,
adjustment, learning problems.
EXAMINATION SKILLS PROGRAMME, 13 MARCH 2007
Our Vergal Charitable trust organized an Examination skills programme for rural students of Kancheepuram at Sevilimedu Govt High School, Kancheepuram.
Beneficiaries: 58 students of 10th Standard, who are going to face public examination, belonging to rural place called Sevilimedu, mostly from low economic background.30 girls and 28 boys participated in the camp.
Booklet containing all hints about the topics we discussed in programme, a long scale, a pen, a pencil and an eraser were given to all 10th std students.
REFRESHMENT CAMP FOR STUDENTS SEP28.29,30, 2007
We arranged a 3 days residential refreshment camp for our students from different villages in and around Kancheepuram whose educational support is given by us.
First two days meant for students above age 13 (i. e 9th to 12th std students. Adolescence counseling, Goal setting, Employment skills, Participatory education, Communication English were the topics handled. Total participants 53. Girls 23 and boys 30.
Life is beautiful film was screened for them.
The third day is one day theatre workshop for children below 13 yrs. It was conducted by Dr. Velu saravanan. Total participants were 47. Girls 29 boys 18.
VERGAL EDUCATIONAL TOUR FEBRAURY 25, 2007
Our Vergal Charitable trust, Kancheepuram organized Vergal Educational Tour for our educationally adopted children on Feb 25, 2007, Sunday. It was a one day tour to Gingee Fort, Sathanur dam and Tiruvannamalai Arunachaleswar temple.
47 students, 4 trustees and 10 vergal volunteers participated in the tour.
ORPHANAGE VISITS

We visited a residential school for deaf and dumb, MIBBLU, at 8.30 am and provided breakfast & sweets to them. 110 children were present. On the same day, lunch & sweets were provided to inmates of Tiruvalluvar Gurukulam, Kaliyampoondi. Total beneficiaries: 300 children.
Tamil New year 2007
Our trust organized meals for orphanages mentioned below on 14.04.2007 to celebrate the Tamil New year. Mother Teresa Home for Mentally challenged, Kancheepuram (7.30 am) Sathyajothi Karunai Illam, Kancheepuram: (1.15 pm) Tiruvalluvar Gurukulam for Tribes, Kancheepuram (6.30 pm). A small interaction about Dr. Ambedkar, Bagatsingh and other national leaders was done by Mr. Mohana Subramanian and Mr. Sivaprakasam, Orphanage inmates amused us by songs and dance and sharing jokes.
Roseday celebrationon Sep 22, 2007
Our Vergal trust members, with the help of Udhavum Ullangal Chennai arranged for distribution of bathing soaps and biscuits to the cancer patients as a part of Rose day celebration. Totally 282 patients (207 females and 75 males) were there and the remaining 11 sets were given to the hospital staff for distributing.
Raksha bandan celebration and Teachers day celebration Sep 2, 2007
Vergal Trust celebrated Teachers day and Raksha bandan on Sunday September 2nd 2007, between 4.00pm to 7.00pm.The children studying at the 3 Vergal support centres participated. Our boy students were tied rakhi by our girl students. Sweets and chocolates were distributed. Greeting cards were given by students to volunteers. Games were organized for students.
Students were asked to record their opinion about the centres and their needs.
