About Us
Dear friends,
Vergal, is a voluntary organization, formed by persons with same thoughts of doing service to the society. Out main activities are serving the poor and needy, by Annadhanam, supporting the education, organizing personality developmen camps for the needy students, helping them to perform better.
Our present doings:
We visit orphanages and homes, provide them cultural programmes which will boost their self confidence and make them feel they are not alone apart from providing food.
We work for the release for the child labours and support their education, making them join regular school.
We run vergal education support centre for the child labours put in school, to bridge the gap of their lost years of education.
We organize pesonality development programmes for school students involving xamination skills, career guidance, adolescence counselling and education, self development and memory skills, especially for rural students.
We organize medical camps in villages, arrange blood donors whenever there is a call.
We help poor students to continue their education by education by educationally adopting them.
We organize awareness camps for Women and Children.

Vergal
Help for blinds
We helped a 6 year old girl to get her eye operated at Shankara Nethralaya, when her eyes were seriously affected. We have helped a person with Tape-recorder and cassettes for his studies. We also volunteer to arrange eye camps.
Future plans and needs
Out present goal is to support he students we are supporting now so that they can complete their education, without any problem. Education given is life given. So we need the amount required for the continuation of education, and to support them in every possible way.
We have a plan for expanding our study support centre, so that it can support all the released child labours, and can accmmodate some people if there is a need.
Vergal Psychologocial counseling centre
We counsel students and women.
Personality development camps:
We arrange personality development camps, which deal with examination skills, media awareness, adventure sports, career guidance, for the rural students. This we found bring them confidence, boost their self image and minimize their inferiority complex. We do it in schools.
Refreshment Camps
We do intensive camps for the child labours as a way f moral boosting and with lots of programmes like painting, sports, story telling, inviting special guests. Recent camp was in October 2004.
We have done a ‘Kuzhainthaigal thiruvizha’ in Jan 2004, in which 140 child labours from all parts of Kancheepuram participated and enjoyed.-
Medical Hes:
Mr. Srinivasan has provided medical help for Mr. Sekar and Mr. Sukumar.
For Women:
We organize 3 days camp for women, specailly self help group mmbers, to improve their self concept. Also we do awareness camps for their rights and health. Our recent camp was in June 2004.
Medical camps:
We organize medical camps in villages, specially for women and children. Out recent camp was at Magaral in March 2005. We have arranged for Cancer check up camp for Women done by Cancer Hospital, Chennai.
Blood donors:
We are arranging blood donars, whenever there is request.
Orphanage visits:
We visit orphanages, at least thrice a year, provide them food, give them programmes which will boost the self confidence of inmates. And the programmes are arranged by the released child labours, which is a boost for them. Our recent visit was on Oct 2005.
Grown out from Vergal:
Mr. Rathina kumar has finished his Mech. Engineering by the help of Vergal and is working in a private concern.
Mr. Rani, a handicapped person has finished her high school and Montessori teacher training by our help and also got her leg operated. She is now working as a teacher in Sriram Group of schools.
Mr. Pugazhenthi, is in final year of polytechnic.
Ms. Gayathri and Ms. Jamuna are in the final year Diploma in Comp. Eng. in CPT, Tharamani and more….
Apart from the above children we help about 40 children for their educational needs.
Out other doings:
Vergal Education Support centre:
Apart from the education help we do for the child labours and other needy children, we felt a need for a education support centre, to support them daily. Though the child labours were released and put in schools, they find it very hard to bridge the lost years of education. To help them to bridge this gap we started a support centre last year.
We have 2 teachers who guide them and support them in education which run from 6 pm to 8 pm. We also see that most of them don’t have their breakfast for various reasons, we are arranging some health drinks in the mornings.
Need: We need Rs.1000/-(500 for each teacher) per month, to support the teachers and Rs. 500/= per month for the healthdrinks for the students.
